To ensure that your suitcase remains clean and durable throughout the time, cleaning your suitcase plays a crucial role. In this article, let's discover the effective ways to clean your suitcase!
Your suitcase is a faithful companion during several journeys, and as such, it often comes with dirt and bacteria from the external environment while traveling. Therefore, let's explore the simple yet effective methods to clean your suitcase right away!
Cleaning your suitcase is crucial
Step 1: Checking
Before the cleaning process, you should carefully examine the exterior and interior of the suitcase for any significant damages. If you notice cracks on the outer shell, damaged wheels, broken zippers, or torn inner lining, it's essential to take the suitcase to the store for warranty and repairs. Additionally, make sure all belongings have been taken out to facilitate the cleaning and maintenance process.

Step 2: Clean the exterior
Firstly, gently wipe the exterior of the suitcase with a soft cloth and a surface-cleaning solution (e.g., multipurpose spray) or regular tap water, which should be sufficient to clean normal dust and dirt.
For stubborn stains, you can use a mixture of white vinegar (or lemon juice) and baking soda or a little dish soap/laundry detergent diluted in water. Use a soft cloth to soak the solution and gently wipe the stains. More carefully, you can also opt for specialized suitcase cleaning solutions readily available in the market for extra care.
Note: You should pay attention to the cleaning solutions used. For suitcase models with a PC plastic coating on the exterior, you can use glass cleaner to maintain its shine. However, for metal accessories (such as combination locks or handlebars), you’d better to avoid using acidic cleaning solutions to prevent damage.
After the initial cleaning, wash the cloth and wipe the exterior again with plain water!

Step 3: Clean the interior
To effectively clean the interior of the suitcase, follow these steps.
- Clean the fabric lining: If your suitcase has a fabric lining or velour layer, you should use a small brush and a vacuum cleaner.
Interior cleaning
- Clean the drawers and small pockets: If your suitcase has drawers or small pockets, check and clean them. Unzip the small pockets and remove any dirt, then wipe them with a damp cloth.
- Odor removal and moisture absorption: To eliminate odors from your suitcase, you can use specialized sprays or air fresheners inside to maintain a pleasant fragrance. After odor treatment, open the suitcase and let it air dry naturally for a few hours. Before storing, place a moisture-absorbing packet inside to prevent mold and protect both the suitcase and your health.

Bước 4: Clean the small parts
Small accessories such as wheels, handles, pull straps, zippers, and locks are often the most prone to collecting dust and bacteria
- The wheels often have multiple crevices that collect dust. Thus, you can take them apart to scrub then let them air dry before reassembling.
Disassembling the wheels to clean
- The pull handle is usually made of metal, so avoid cleaning it with acidic cleaning solutions as they can accelerate the oxidation process and cause rust.
Clean the pull handle
- The handles, zippers, and code locks can be cleaned using a soft brush to remove all the dust and debris stuck in the crevices, and then wiped clean with a small cotton swab.

Step 5: Proper Storage of the Suitcase
After the cleaning process, allow the suitcase to dry completely before storing. The suitcase should be stored in a dry and well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight. If the suitcase is not going to be used for an extended period, consider keeping it in a protective bag or covering it with a thin cloth to prevent dust buildup and protect its surface.
The benefits of proper suitcase maintenance
Normally, suitcase cleaning is not given much attention as they are stored in a fixed position after a trip and may not be used again for a considerable period. Few people know that this neglect accelerates the oxidation process on the outer shell, significantly reducing the quality of the suitcase. Consequently, the suitcase may experience shell cracks or rust on metal accessories.
Good maintenance helps prolong life-span of the suitcase
However, cleaning the suitcase is not too complicated and does not necessarily have to be done frequently. You just need to clean the suitcase regularly after each trip or after 2-3 months of non-use, and that should ensure the longest possible usage!
Furthermore, to ensure the longevity of your suitcase, choose a high-quality, flexible, and durable material. Hung Phat is currently producing premium suitcase models using PC/PP plastic materials that offer outstanding durability and high impact resistance, capable of withstanding any bumps and ensuring long-lasting use.
